ProDanza Commission
Through the David Herrera Performance Company's Latinx Hispanic Dancers United initiative, "ProDanza” is a collaboration commission for in-person dance performance or dance film by a San Francisco dance artist. The commission is meant to stimulate artist collaboration between a lead Latinx choreographer and another Latinx collaborative artist(s) of their choice for a live dance performance or dance film work.
ProDanza 2026 Artists
Karla Quintero’s cross-genre improvisation practice draws from contemporary, club, and partner dance, somatics, and a love of genre (horror, telenovelas). She works from a deep faith in the doing, the ongoing practicing of dance, and in what that steady return offers to her community and immediate family.
Collaborator:
Diego Munguia is a multimedia artist whose practice spans experimental electronic music, avant-garde jazz, electroacoustic composition, drone, hip-hop, and live generative visuals.
Project.
They are developing STAR LIGHT, an improvised evening-length work that follows Karla's attempt to cut ties with pop influences that have distorted her sense of self.
Giulia y Giovana Sales are Brazilian contemporary dance artists whose practice investigates the intersections of territory, ancestry, and memory, using the stage to express what is untranslatable and to honor the living voices and memories of those who inspire them daily.
Collaborator:
João Vieira is a San Francisco–based documentary filmmaker, born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His work explores immigration, language, and the political realities of diasporic communities, often blending traditional filmmaking with analogue media and gallery-based installation.
Project:
Thei project explores what it means to walk as an immigrant—to move through a foreign city and physically understand its textures and rhythms. Through dance and documentary-style observation, the film traces a journey across San Francisco, following a single character embodied by two dancers who are never seen together, but whose movements echo one another across time and space.
Héctor Jaime is an Indigenous dance artist and their practice bridges Mexican shamanic history with contemporary movement to create a political statement of representation and communal care for Native and queer Latinx communities.
Collaborator:
Roco Córdova is a vocalist, composer, producer and improviser whose work fuses diverse influences with electronic media, chance operations, gradual processes, noise, improvisation, and timbral techniques of composition.
Project:
Seen through a queer Indigenous lens, the project functions as a live dialogue between Jaime's movement and the sonic practice of Córdova, where choreography, voice, and electronic sound meet as interdependent forces.
